#u03:2004 - Five Dollar Uke
|
April 16 , 2004I have posted images of the first three Ukes in my Art Uke project. They were very fun to do, and I will be doing more. If you'd like more info, hop over to my art pages and find out more about my work... and drop me a note. Feb 16 , 2004Still plinking away. My art uke project is coming along, and I will post some images here very soon. I have taken two of them out and shown them around sans-strings - I just need to find a few hours to do the last little bit on them so I can photograph them. Then on to the next ones. Also... I decided to build my own soprano uke. I have a book on the process and am starting to collect the materials. Should be fun. I contacted someone local about beginner lessons, but the class won't be offered again for a while... I think I really am going to need a class to progress beyond where I am. --Scott. |

Jan 1 , 2004Now playing in the disc changer of my car is the soundtrack to Stanley's Gig - (a movie I have not seen), the disc was a gift from friends. Thanks V&R :-) I just added a guitar strap button to the Hilo, and added a leather mandolin strap - taking the suggestion from the Ralp Shaw uke video. I like it, it feels very comfortable. I have also started an art uke project. Check back for pictures soon. I am pleased at the first stages of the linocut ukes - I am enjoying the blend of my hobbies. I'm still looking into a streaming server... I'll get audio up soon and fix the broken video link. I really will. --Scott. Nov 24, 2003Uke Stick has been super to have along on the commute for stop and go traffic. It's so small I can just let it sit in my lap until I have to stop. I still have not taken any cool pictures of it...when I pick it up, the last thing I think of is pictures. The Johnson Reso Uke is back from Trading Musician. They did a great job and it sounds sweet. --Scott. |
Nov 17, 2003Uke Stick has arrived. Wow, it is fun to play. Here are a few pictures. I also took the Johnson in for a check-out by the folks at Trading Musician. It has a funny sound and they think there may be an odd weld inside contributing to it. --Scott |

Nov 12, 2003Took my Hilo along on the family weekend at the ocean near Pacific Beach. There were a few breaks in the weather. It was fun playing while walking next to the ocean, even if it was about 40 degrees out and really windy. I didn't have to worry about anyone complaing about my lack of talent :-O. Kiddo thinks It sounds tolerable, so I have a good audience built in. --Scott. |

Nov 14-15, 2003Every website should have a store. Isn't cafe-press a great idea. |

Nov 12, 2003Ooh, it is here. Had to go for low light in the picture, because it is practially impossible to capture the mother of pearl and the chrome without blowing them out. Cool sound - though something isn't quite right about the sound- something may be loose. Amp arrived, but the Uke Stick doesn't get here until monday according to the UPS tracker. --Scott.
Oct 31, 2003I have picked up Ralph Shaw's complete Ukulele course. I am learning to strum. Resonator uke on the way. ..and a uke stick, and an amp, and I'm pretty much hooked. --Scott. Oct 2003So. My parents let my daughter bring a tenor ukulele home to play with. It was missing a string, and I figured four stings would be more fun for her than three - and I went to get strings. I saw the soprano ukeleles on the wall at Trading Musician, and I bought myself one (pictured left) based purely on looks, since I know nothing about them and the $25 price wasn't too steep. The hole pattern on the front looked unusual. So... here is my first attempt at a song. Video ~1 MB Good fun, and since I made a bargain with myself that I could order a shiny resonator ukulele when I could play a song (no matter how poorly) - I shall count this effort as goal reached. --Scott. |
